Living and growing up in Newquay and with over 20 years’ experience in the construction and property maintenance sector.
I started in the early 1990’s as an Architectural Technician with The National Trust. There, I prepared drawings for projects ranging from new farm buildings to drawings supporting Listed Building applications for repair/renovation works. This continued during vacations from Cornwall College and The University of the West of England, Bristol.
In 1998 I joined the Building and Design department of the well-respected firm of Chartered Surveyors, Stratton & Holborow. There I continued as an Architectural Technician working on projects including new domestic dwellings, extensions, attic conversions, barn conversions, new agricultural buildings, office refurbishments and Listed Building renovation works.
It was whilst working for Stratton & Holborow in 2003 that I became an Associate member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) (this was held until 2012).
In 2004 I moved into Facilities Management as part the Ministry of Defences’ Regional Prime Contract. There I was responsible for ensuring that the maintenance contractor carried out their day to day duties in accordance with the contract as well as ensuring major maintenance tasks were planned in. I also captured requirements for new works from end users, managing budgets to ensure operational outputs continued to be met. In 2013 I successfully gained full Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Building. It was in late 2014 that I came full circle and established Simon Foster Architectural Services.
